Fund Development

Fund development is the continuing and evolving process of generating public and private support.  Raising money, of course is the central purpose of fund development, but simple fund raising, unless it is an integral part of a long-term strategy, will only result in generating funds for short-term needs.

Fund Development Training

        Most significant fund development initiatives require the involvement of volunteers. Smith, Ozman & Joseph’s can facilitate the recruitment of volunteers and provide orientation and training for individuals appropriate to the fund raising tasks.

 

        Asking for money is one of the most feared tasks other than public speaking. We will augment your fund raising efforts by training you and to conduct organizational and development related presentations to selected entities to educate audiences about your association/organization and the importance of philanthropy.

 

Prospect Research

          We constantly research and identify potential sources of support. We review RFP’s to determine appropriate matches and often times submit a predetermination letter to establish interest.  Additionally, Smith, Ozman & Joseph’s maintains a network of contacts with whom we are familiar with their giving preferences.

 

Program Planning & Corporate Solicitation

        Because we negotiate sponsorships every day, it's great to have us on your side!  We obtain prominent corporate identification with signs, banners, and strategic placements.  Every detail is worked out to our client’s advantage.

 

        We will ensure extra value in product placements, demonstrations, announcements, key tie-ins, advertisements, promotional giveaways and award ceremonies. We maximize your promotion dollar!

 

        We work with you to plan and implement a program for the cultivation and solicitation of prospects for sponsorship and investment in programs, projects or special enterprises.   This includes coordinating plans to conduct face-to-face solicitations; development of a donor recognition program that encourages early commitments and increased participation; and provisions for regular and ongoing follow-up to cultivate prospective donors.

  

Collateral Material Development

          We have the expertise to produce a funding prospectus for potential supporters, organizational brochures, and annual reports that enhance your image.  In addition, we will support and facilitate your professional presence in its interface with the funding community.

 

Stewardship & Recognition

        Proper stewardship of gifts is essential to a successful fund raising program.  Donors want to know that you have planned for investments, follow strict accounting practices, and that you are knowledgeable about the standards of practice that govern the industry.  Smith, Ozman & Joseph’s will prepare and recommend appropriate policies and procedures that will guide your fund raising efforts so you will be prepared for every encounter.

 

        Nothing can be more satisfying than sending out thank you letters and other gift acknowledgements.  On the other hand, nothing can be more damaging to your reputation if not done in a timely, expedient, and professional manner.  Management of the gift acknowledgment process, including correspondence and post-award contractual agreements is an important part of the overall fund development strategy.
